Fifth Inria-DFKI European Summer School on AI (IDESSAI 2025)

  • Responsible AI and Machine Ethics and Twin AI
  • Inria Rocquencourt (close to Paris), France
  • July 21st to 25th, 2025
  • https://idessai.eu/
  • Registration deadline: July 14th, 2025

IDESSAI 2025 is the fifth yearly Summer School organized by the two renowned German and French institutes, DFKI and Inria. It stands out from the crowd of offerings for AI students in several aspects:

  • Our program features a line-up of courses focused on two timely themes, Responsible AI and Machine Ethics and Twin AI, which are at the forefront of socio-economic issues related to AI.
  • The program also features an optional 4h-course on Entrepreneurship for Scientists.
  • On top of the latest methodological advances and the shared vision of the future that both organizing institutes have to offer, IDESSAI 2025 will be practically oriented. We will achieve this through courses with hands-on labs or case studies, and the involvement of industry practitioners and innovators.
  • We ensure a good balance in the number of participants and instructors: participants will have the opportunity to join a community of like-minded people, and, at the same time, they will be in close contact with the experts.
  • Participants will be offered too the opportunity to present their work to each other in dedicated poster/demo sessions.

Responsible AI and Machine Ethics and Twin AI will take place in two parallel tracks, while the keynote will be plenary. There will be plenty of opportunities to exchange between these two tracks at coffee breaks, meals, social events, and demo/poster sessions.

TARGETED AUDIENCE

IDESSAI 2025 was primarily designed for PhD students in all areas of AI, including machine learning, knowledge representation and reasoning, search and optimization, planning and scheduling, multi-agent systems, natural language processing, robotics, computer vision, and other areas. PhD students in other fields, MSc students, postdocs, and researchers in academia and industry are also welcome.

VENUE

IDESSAI 2025 is planned as a fully in-person event, which will take place at Inria headquarters in Rocquencourt (close to Paris). Remote attendance will not be possible.

Optional Track Entrepreneurship for Scientists :

Session 1 – Where to Start? From Science to Startup
The goal is to open up the topic, highlight the many funding opportunities available in both the French and German ecosystems, and get participants to reflect on why they’re interested in entrepreneurship. We’ll also include inspiring stories.

Session 2 –  Innovation into Impact (1) – From Tech to Product
How do you turn a technology into a product or service? This session will include a group game to introduce simple business tools, and an interactive portion where participants explore how their technologies could lead to real-world solutions — with the key idea that entrepreneurship starts by solving a problem.

Session 3 –  Innovation into Impact (2) – From Product to Business
We will guide participants through the main steps of turning a product into a viable business. Through group exercises and peer discussions, we will cover essential topics like value proposition, target customers, business models, and go-to-market strategies, tailored to Deeptech.

Session 4 –  Team Building
This session will focus on understanding personal strengths and how to build complementary teams, with interactive formats and shared experiences.

FEES AND REGISTRATION

Our fees include all courses and tutorials, coffee breaks, lunches and two social events (welcome dinner and mid-week social event with dinner).

Please keep in mind that accommodation must be organized on your own and paid for by yourself.

Registrations will be possible from May 22th.

During registration, you will have to choose your preferred track (Responsible AI and Machine Ethics or Twin AI,) and if you wish to attend the entrepreneur track as well (Entrepreneurship for Scientists).

To ensure a good balance in the number of participants and instructors and maximize the chances of interaction, the number of attendees is limited to 50 per track. Applicants will be selected on the grounds of diversity and benefit gained from attending the selected track.
