06-10.07.26 | The European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence 2026

Organised under the auspices of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence, ESSAI has become one of Europe’s leading AI summer schools, bringing together students, early-stage researchers, and internationally recognised experts from across the AI community.

The 2026 edition will offer an intensive five-day programme featuring more than 30 lecturers across multiple parallel tracks, covering a broad range of Artificial Intelligence disciplines and interdisciplinary perspectives. Participants will have access to introductory and advanced AI courses, specialised tutorials, keynote talks, and networking activities designed to foster collaboration across the European AI ecosystem.

This year’s programme places particular emphasis on two special themes:

  • Bilateral AI, focusing on systems combining symbolic and sub-symbolic AI approaches
  • Digital Humanism, exploring the relationship between AI technologies and society.

ESSAI 2026 will also include:

  • courses and tutorials spanning the full breadth of AI research
  • keynote talks by internationally recognised researchers
  • networking opportunities connecting academia and industry
  • a dedicated social programme, including a reception at Vienna City Hall.

The summer school is expected to welcome around 400 participants from across Europe and beyond, reinforcing its role as a major meeting point for the next generation of AI researchers.
